MBTI Personality Types
Your zodiac sign may not necessarily say all that much about your personality but your MBTI type does. MBTI, or Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, is a personality inventory based on a psychology theory put forward by Carl G. Jung.
According to psychologist Carl G. Jung, there are four different criteria making one’s personality. The first domain is extraversion – introversion (E – I) which reflects the source of one’s energy expression. In psychological terms, an extravert would direct their energy to the external world, while introverts tend to draw their own energy from their internal world.
The second domain is one’s preference for perception. The criterion Sensing – Intuition (S – N) – represents the way you perceive information. If you tend to mostly believe information you receive from the outside world, you are Sensing. If you, however, tend to go with your gut feeling (receive information from your internal or imaginative world), you would be categorized as Intuitive.
The third domain Thinking – Feeling (T – F) reflects the way you process information. If you tend to go with your gut or base your decisions on emotions, you will be Feeling. Thinking personalities tend to be more logical about their decisions.
Finally, the fourth criterion Judging – Perceiving (J – P) represents the way you implement the information you process. If you’re Judging, you are more likely to organize your life and stick to original plans. Perceiving, on the other hand, signifies a greater tendency to improvise.
As you can see, there are 16 different combinations of the above four criteria (you can be either extrovert or introvert, either judging or perceiving, and so on). The combination of the four letters making your personality type is your MBTI type. For instance, if you’re an introvert (I) that tends to be more Sensing (S) and Thinking (T) but also likes to improvise (P), your MBTI personality type will be ISTP.
It’s important to note that even though the MBTI scale is dichotomous, the scales represent a continuum. This means that two people broadly categorized as Extroverts, for instance, can have varying levels of Extraversion.
Finding out your MTBI type is simple. All you need to do is find an online quiz that can assess this for you. Most of these are free and contain a series of around 40-50 questions that evaluate your personality in terms of extraversion-introversion, sensing and intuition, thinking or feeling, and judging or perceiving.
These questions have to do with the way you perceive and interact with the world – whether you follow a schedule, whether you would characterize yourself as imaginative, whether you enjoy being the centre of attention.
The way Jung saw personality was as something very similar to being right-handed or left-handed: you can be either born with, or develop certain ways of perceiving and deciding. None of these types is inherently better or worse, but some MBTI types may be better suited to certain careers, for instance.
Once you have completed the MBTI test, you will receive a detailed report of your MBTI type and what it means, personally, to you: your strengths and weaknesses, best-suited careers, how your type performs in relationships, as well as famous people with the same MBTI type. Read along to find out some of the most famous, common or interesting MBTI personality types and the celebrities characterized by them.
Celebrities boasting the ENTJ – extroversion, intuition, thinking and judging – personality type include Margaret Thatcher, Napoleon Bonaparte and Quentin Tarantino. These tend to be blunt and decisive, motivated by success in their careers and enjoy being in a position where they can call the shots.
The ENTPs thrive on challenges. They are creative and often push the boundaries of tradition and customs. Some famous examples include Steve Jobs, Niccolo Machiavelli, and Benjamin Franklin.
Hilary Clinton, Bill Gates and Isaac Asimov all shared the same personality type: INTJ. The INTJs are reserved and serious, prefer to be alone and to base their decisions on logic. They’re rarely spontaneous and focus on concepts and ideas rather than the fine details.
Albert Einstein and Rene Descartes were a typical INTP personality type: cool on the outside but privately passionate about innovation and analysis. INTP is traditionally considered the ‘philosopher’ or ‘innovator’ personality type – people, fascinated by design and systems, that often appear oblivious to the world around them.

The ENFJs, on the other hand, are the extraverted idealists of the MBTI. They are somewhat rare but they are often the catalysts for human growth. Driven by a sense of altruism and empathy for others, some famous ENFJs include Oprah Winfrey, Pope John Paul II and Martin Luther King, Jr.
The ENFPs are people-centered as well, driven by curiosity and a desire for emotional intensity. Famous people such as Bill Clinton, Drew Barrymore and Mark Twain tend to be bored by repetition and often seek opportunities for self-expression.
Mohandas Gandhi, Eleanor Roosevelt and Carl Jung himself, on the other hand, were INFJs: creative with a strong sense of personal integrity with a great ability to figure out how others feel (sometimes even before others knew that themselves).
The INFP personality type includes famous names such as Princess Diana, William Shakespeare and Kurt Cobain. Imaginative and idealists, INFPs are always guided by their own core values and believes and display unrivalled compassion.

The ESTJ personality type is the Executive of the MBTI: these people represent order and tradition, embracing values of honesty and dignity and often valued for their leadership skills and clear advice. The ESTJs are the community leaders, the presidents, those that work hard to make a difference in a world of clear, verifiable facts. If you’re an ESTJ, you’re certainly in a good company: this personality type is shared by people such as John D. Rockefeller, Frank Sinatra and even the character Boromir from the Lord of the Rings.
People with the ESFJ personality type are what you can call ‘popular’. They make about 10-12% of the population and enjoy being in the spotlight, leading their teams, friends and everyone who follows to victory and fame. Shared by celebrities such as Bill Clinton, Tyra Banks and Jennifer Lopez, this personality type is also altruistic but tends to base their moral compass on tradition and authority, rather than philosophy.
The ISTJ, on the other hand, prefer to follow the rules, valuing predictability over spontaneity: they’re one of the most common MBTI personality types (found in 12% of the population) with famous examples such as Queen Victoria, J.D. Rockefeller and Queen Elizabeth II.
The ISFJ type is that of the caregivers, of those who remain loyal and dutiful despite all, of the people focused on fulfilling their responsibilities especially when it comes to the needs of others. People like Mother Theresa and Kate Middleton are humble and unassuming, rarely calling attention to themselves.
--------------
Extraverted and always ready to take a risk, the ESTPs thrive on drama. Their logical minds love making snap decisions on the go and observing the results on the immediate surroundings. People like Ernest Hemingway and Madonna believe that rules are meant to be broken and aspire to change the world their own way.
The ESFP personality type is also known as the entertainer. Shared by celebrities such as the infamous Marilyn Monroe, Adele, Jamie Oliver, and Miley Cyrus, this personality type is known for loving to put on a show – for friends and strangers alike. Naturally curious, the ESFPs love to explore new styles, designs, and environments and are sensitive to others’ emotions, knowing exactly what to say to help somebody out.
The ISTPs, on the other hand, examine the world with cool rationalism. Known as the Virtuoso, this personality type is shared by people such as Bear Grylls, Olivia Wilde and Clint Eastwood – enigmatic, friendly but very private, calm and sometimes overly spontaneous, inquisitive but often struggling with formal education, they are a bit of a mystery to everyone surrounding them.
Last but certainly not least, Cher, Barbara Streisand and Bob Dylan are best characterized by the ISFP personality type – artistic, sensitive and with an innate sense of what is aesthetically pleasing.
--------------
Surprisingly, personality can be predicted based on where you are from. Nicaragua and Lebanon, for instance, are one of the most extraverted countries in the world, while Lithuania and Chile are on the other end of the spectrum. Italy and Tunisia are amongst the most intuitive countries, while the people of Nigeria, Ghana and Afghanistan are more observant but also top the charts as the most Judging ones (remember that Judging (J) is a trait in the MBTI framework to describe the way information is processed by a person and has nothing to do with the judgmental attitudes).
Recognized yourself in any of the MBTI personality types we covered? Keep in mind that, even though the MBTI is the most widely administered psychological test, it’s in no way a diagnostic tool. Take the quiz as a fun pass-time activity or a way to self-reflect and learn more about yourself rather than something that should define you.
